Mindfulness & Movement – Fall Semester

September 21, 2017 @ 9:30 am - 11:20 am

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 9:30am on Thursday, repeating until February 2, 2018

Mindfulness is important for everyone to practice, whether you are age 5 or age 95. Here at eNDVR we think it is important for our students to learn awareness of their minds and bodies, in order to help them learn how to navigate the wide range of emotions that life can throw at them. Whether it’s everyday interactions with friends and family, coworkers or co-students, or dealing with tragedy and stress, mindfulness helps us all build healthier minds, bodies, and communities. Join us as we help to teach students mindfulness this fall semester in 3 different age groups. This is a new and growing area of learning for the students at eNDVR. Last year we had an Awareness 101 class for older students but are expanding to include classes that are age appropriate for every age range.

Movement is also so incredibly important for children in order to learn, and lead healthy lives. Children learn through movement; they connect to the world and concepts around them through play and physical activity. In the past we have had weekly drop-in gymnastic classes, yoga, hoola hoop, taekwondo, ballet, and dance.

Our Mindfulness & Movement block is based on student interest. Families who sign up early will be directly involved in planning and organizing our semester. Even if your student signs up on the last day, he or she will have a choice in classes, as our age groups are flexible and overlap.

Ages 5-8:
9:30-10:20 – taekwondo or yoga/creative movement
10:30-11:20 – dance
9:30-11:20 – gymnastics (1 hour class from 10-11)

Ages 8-13:
9:30-10:20 – taekwondo or yoga/creative movement
10:30-11:20 – dance or swing dance (with partners)
9:30-11:20 – gymnastics (1 hour class from 10-11)

Ages 13-18:
9:30-10:20 – taekwondo
10:30-11:20 – swing dance
9:30-11:20 – Advanced Behavioral Psychology(see below for more information) or gymnastics (1 hour class from 10-11)

We will run two 8 week sessions during the semester, so students are able to participate in several activities, but we are asking them to commit to one activity for 8 weeks. We will let them switch after week 1 if they really don’t like what they’ve chosen.
Clark’s Awareness class is semester long.
The Yoga/Creative Movement class will be very open to parent/student input and the dance class for 5-13 can be a variety of dance types, based on what the kids want to learn.

We have not confirmed the gymnastics class and will wait to do so until we know there is enough interest.

Advanced Behavioral Psychology class description: Ages 12+ PreRequisite: Awareness 101 taught by Clark Patton, CHT.

The subconscious mind is made up of all our memories, experiences, emotions, and automatic responses. It drastically affects our behavior and the way we interact with the world. A very powerful part of the mind, and yet the subconscious tends to operate below our level of awareness. Stepping beyond the basics, this course teaches how to operate states of selective awareness, and create positive resolution within the subconscious mind. Students will learn how to better communicate on a much deeper level with their family, peers, community, and themselves. They will learn how to recognize and become free from the prisons of outdated belief systems, emotional imbalance, and self-limiting ideas. Students will tap into their own strengths & reserves of creativity to solve complex problems, and how to spot and deal with the underlying source of an issue. These are lifelong skills meant to empower the individual, successfully navigate the obstacles of life, and create long-term success.
