Aspire (Grades 7-12) Connect 2018

April 20, 2018 @ 9:30 am - 4:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 9:30am on Friday, repeating until June 8, 2018

Fridays are democratic days at Aspire. Aspire students can sign up for any of the other classes offered through Learning With Meaning (Aspire or eNDVR), but are required to attend on Fridays in order to be considered part of the Aspire program. Our goal at Aspire is to help students understand that personal motivation is the key to success in high school and in later life. Our academic program includes wilderness adventures, acting and movie making, business and entrepreneurship, robotics, AP classes, small group tutoring, and more. Our course offerings are constantly changing based on the needs and interests of our students. We are as rigorous as students want to be, while striving to maintain the balance between school, social and extra curricular activities. We are not currently an accredited program, but we are beginning the accreditation process.

Please note – Simply signing up does not guarantee you admission to Aspire. Your payment will hold your spot, but students need to submit an “Expression of Interest” in order to be admitted. This can be a short paper, work of art, video or ANYTHING that tells us that you (the student) want to become a part of our community. For 2017, students who have participated in past eNDVR programs do not need to submit – just sign up!

Our day looks like this…

Accountability and Reflection
Students begin their day by reflecting on their weekly accomplishments. At the beginning of the year, students select academic goals to meet in order to receive transcript credit. Students and their parents will decide on how that work is evaluated for credit. Students document their work by entering it into our academic and portfolio tracking system every Friday morning.

Community Meeting
Next, students gather to discuss school administration, upcoming activities, fundraising and student relationships. This meeting is the heart of our democratic community, honoring student voices equally with adult voices.

Projects and Experiences
Students spend the rest of the day working on projects of their own choosing, on or off campus. Every student must be included in this process so that no one feels isolated or left out. Teachers and parent volunteers are on hand to take middle school students to locations throughout Missoula. Older students are able to bike or bus to locations throughout Missoula with parental permission.
